For the early Santa:
When: Friday, December 15th
Our adventure begins at 7:00pm. SANTA BOWLS!
Where: http://20thcenturybowl.com/ , 1411 North State Street

For the later Santa:
The next meeting spot will be at The Grand Ave pub (lovingly known as "Pooties") where Santa will convene around 9:00pm. It is at 311 Grand Ave. Santa will begin the walk from there, probably departing The Grand at 10:00pm.

There is a link for this event which is hosted by our lovely Lula but I'm going to let her follow up with that and directions to the Halfway House where the post-bar experience will be multiplied. The Safehouse is also open to Santas in transit. Contact Santa Kingpin for more on that.
Humble 60's Musician; a Star in Three Cultures
by K.R.Kaur

"I like the guitar playing of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Vic Briggs". - Jimi Hendrix 1967

Eric Clapton amd Jeff Beck. we've heard of, but who is Vic Briggs?

Oh yeah, he was the lead guitar player and arranger for Eric Burdon and the New Animals; remember "San Francisco Nights", "Monterey", and "Sky Pilot"?

"Vic Briggs was the most musically adept musician ever to pass through the ranks of the Animals in either of that group's major incarnations. His association with Eric Burdon & the Animals (sometimes called "the New Animals") made him a key player in British psychedelia, his skills as a guitarist and arranger evident on most of that group's hits from 1966 through 1968. - Bruce Eder"

So what happened to him?

Vic Briggs fell in love with East Indian music and culture and changed his name, at the beginning of the 70s. He is Antion Vikram Singh now, a practicing Sikh, In 1979 he became the first non-Indian to ever play classical Gurbani Kirtan, the sacred music of the Sikh religion, at Darbar Sahib in Amritsar Indian, aka The Golden Temple.

"Classical Indian music takes years and years of study, but somehow I learned Gurbani Kirtan very quickly. So quite suddenly, there I was, this white guy, doing this totally 'Kick Ass Kirtan'! It seemed to disturb them somewhat. They didn't quite know what to make of me. One ragi, Sikh musician, I was close to told me that another ragi, very well known, said I was 'haaneekarak' (dangerous)."

Then in 1991 Antion was introduced to the music and culture of Hawaii. Surprised to find how much it stirred his soul, Antion began to listen to and learn to play Hawaiian music. This culminated in his moving to the island of Kauai in 1993. He was fortunate to study with an outstanding Kumu Hula (Hula Master), Blaine Kamalani Kia. Antion Vikram Singh has now become known and respected for his Oli (Hawaiian chanting) and has performed at leading Hula Festivals and competitions all over Hawaii.

"For many years, I have believed that my life purpose is two fold:

First to inspire and empower others spiritually with the sound of my voice.

Second, to help others to inspire and empower themselves with the sound of their own voices.

Recently, I have been inspired to add a third:

To bring through my music and presence a sense of aloha and healing to all I meet."

i'm in a bit of a pinch. i bought meself a ticket to bassnectar, coming up this tuesday, thinking i'd be able to make it up from where i'm currently hermit-ing outside seattle. turns out that i don't think i can, though, which is sad indeed. however, this means i have a ticket for one of you lucky and delicious sailors, and it would thrill my heart and shiver my knickers if someone were to take it off my hands. i originally paid 11 or so dollars for it but it'd be silly to ask that much since they're only 8 at the door. 8 at the door! i know, i know, you could easily just go pay at the door, but it would be such a grand thing to, you know, buy it from me instead! also, if you do, i'll write you a poem. it can be on any subject you choose. or i'll take you out for coffee or a pint next time i'm up there. it's up to you! this is basically a magical, win-win situation.

so! if you want my ticket (and a poem or pint), email me and tell me (qirsten@gmail.com). it would be good to do this by the end of tomorrow (sunday) so's i can email the nightlight and tell them what's going on. as far as money-ing is concerned, we'll figure that out... no rush.

I've never been to Burning Man, but I would really really like to go this year and I need to find a ride since my car isn't in any condition for a long road trip.

I would absolutely be able to pay my fair share for gas and other road costs, and maybe even be interested in a group rental car arrangement if we could put something together.

A few things about me:

~~ I've been learning a lot about the BM community lately and am ready to contribute however I can with time, effort, energy, stuff, humor, etc.....

~~I'm not a large person, so I don't take up too much vehicle space. I'm generally mellow, and can be a good conversationalist.

~~I've been volunteering with the Boogie Universal at the last couple big events so I may have already met a few of you.

So, if anyone can help me get to Black Rock City this year I'd really appreciate it. Let me know. I'm hoping by asking early that time will be on my side.

SantaCon Bellingham is this coming Friday, 12/15! More details soon.

Especially for Bellinghamsters: You all are invited to come to my house this Wednesday night, 12/13, to a Mutant Toy Workshop. 7pm-10pm.

Not sure what I'm talking about? http://tinyurl.com/y666hk

You bring glue guns, hacksaws, stuffed animals, weird small toys of all kinds, glitter, ribbons, trims of all manner. . .
I've got a big bag of weird toys I bought at the Goodwill buy-trash-by-the-pound store in Seattle in October. They are begging to become weirder and then handed out on Friday night at SantaCon Bellingham.

I'll have a few snacks, but you too can bring munchies and bevvies.

This is the perfect way to participate in SantaCon even if you aren't up for the public fuckery of Santa on Friday. Think of it as a craft circle with a twisted sense of humor. It's a good excuse to get together, make a mess in my kitchen, and have some laughs. We haven't had an all Hamster get together for a while, so puhleeeeeze come over! Especially if I haven't met you yet.

Sorry for the short notice. Santa is lazy this year. Oh, and the above linked SantaHammy website is sorely out of date, except that the dates posted for the various SantaCons are correct. Just no details posted for meet up spots. If you're browsing the site and can't find the details you want please tribe message me and I'll see if I can scare up some information for ya.

If'n you want to come over on Wednesday for Mutant Toys and don't have my coordinates or telephonic digits send me a private message on Tribe. I don't post that info publically, but I DO welcome making new friends.

Just a suggestion to also post your BM ticket and ride requests to the following three locations (which are probably way more active than this tribe):
SeaPlaya, the Seattle BM bulletin board:

http://www.burningmanseattle.com/bbs/

There are specific threads there for rides and tickets.

Also, if you're not subscribed to the BCWA yahoo list group, that's also an extremely active forum for making these inquiries:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/burningman-bcwa

A third hub of information sharing you can try is:

www.burningvan.org
My backyard is filled with tools, lumber, gadgets, bike parts, fabrics and paint strewn about in process. My main project at the moment is a bike-rickshaw. It's coming together beautifully, in part. The seat and canopy part are structurally finished (out of wood) and ready for astetic finishing details. Getting it on wheels has proven to be more challenging than anticipated. I hoped to do it without welding and created an axl system between two mountain bike wheels, but quickly realized it would never be strong enough. Now I've got a couple of bike front forks that I intend to mount the seat onto, but I just don't see anyway I can get around having to do some welding.

I've got no welding equipment or experience. Do any of you fellow 'Hamsters have either? Want to collaborate on a cool project that you most certainly could enjoy on the Playa?

Cheaper than they are through Burning Man now (last I checked, they were $250). Also, I have room for one and a moderate amount of gear. I don't have a lot of space because I'm driving a convertible down to BRC. But hey, you get to ride to BRC in a convertible, so that's a bonus. It would be nice to have company on the trip and someone to split gas costs. I plan on leaving on Saturday, Aug. 27 and leaving BRC either on the 4th or the 5th (depending on how long it takes to drive down). I have to be back in B'ham by the 6th. This will be my 2nd Burn. I'm dying to get back home. Opened - minded and 4/20 (et al.) friendly a definite plus. If this sounds good to you, drop me a line at terry529@hotmail.com or call me at (360) 676-7369.

Consider this the first of 8 million announcements, spams and door bell ringing hasslers to notify you and your next of kin that the 2nd annual Santarchy in Bellingham (aka Santahammy) will be occurring on December 17th. Santa announced a trio of weekends in which Santa will gather in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, BC. We have chosen to reindeer-back the BC weekend which will occur on Saturday the 18th.

We hope that our fiends to the south might join us on their way north. And we also hope that our fiends to the north might join us in between while their fiends from the south are on their way to the north. What better way to welcome the holidays with an impromtu Santa border-frolick on Saturday? Imagine 50-100 Santas plugging up the border, touching everything while b-patrol asks them impolitely not to, crowding the toilets, puking on the sidewalks, giving nice toys to happy girls and boys, singing XXX-mas carols...heh-heh-heh.

Last year was a smashing success and we hope to increase the amount of debauchery brought about by the RedMenace upon Washington state's only true "city of subdued excitement (ugh)." Help us spread cheer (or beer) to all the good people here. Truely amazing to see people's initial reaction, repulsion, acceptance and eventual joining of the Santa ethos. More information to follow but plan ahead. Many many sleigh beds for weary Santas and other nameless miscreants and more hospitality here than you can shake a cane at.

My apologies but Surly Santa has asked that we remove all zombies from the invite list. This is a "no-brain-eating event" so leave your undead at home. All standard rules apply except for the one stating that Santa must at some point stop Santa-ing. This may be an allnighter deep-ending on the level of professionals we're able to afford or attract. Expect a bender of moral consequence and epic proportions.

May your coat be stained and your beard remain wet.
